One Response to West Papua torture victim speaks of horrific two day ordeal being tortured endlessly by the Indonesian military

  1. Hi, I was born in Madang New Guinea and I and my brother are for West Papuan Independence. I remember seeing a Dutch family that left their home in West Papua in 1963 when Indonesia was sending soldiers to invade West Papua before the Dutch government was forced to leave its colony in West Papua at age 10. Rumors of torture by Indonesian soldiers reached my young ears in 1962. Nothing has changed up to the present. The U.N. was tricked by Dr. Henry Kissinger for personal wealth reasons of aiding Freeport McMoran Mining Corp. to schedule an “Act of Free Choice,” in 1969 that held tribal representatives at Indonesian gun barrel behind barbed wire. The written letters of West Papuan leaders held in the U.N. archive reflect that the truth was that the majority of West Papuan tribes favored self-determination and not Indonesian rule. They simply want to live at peace unmolested without worrying about torture, rape, murder and beatings. That is why Indonesia refuses to allow unescorted media visits to West Papua. As a Christian I am greatly disturbed to hear of churches burned to the ground, ministers on Koppasus hit list, and the use of torture. I heard recently that the Secretary of the U.N. hinted to New Zealand reporters that hints the U.N. is thinking of West Papua concerning abuses of human rights including torture, hit lists, and a slow genocide with about 200,000 known human beings missing and unaccounted for after Indonesian military sweeps. I highly recommend as a U.S. citizen trained in the law, that the U.N. declare the “Act of Free Choice” void form its beginning. West Papuans recieve zero percentage
of their own Grassberg Mine in West Papua. This fact means that Freeport McMoran Mining Inc. is robbing this indigenous population of its national wealth without one iota of “reasonable” compensation. Free speech is prohibited concerning West Papuans yearning for self-determination. It is not to late for the United Nations to correct this mistake and join the two Papuas into one nation, one island, one free nation. This act of free choice for West Papua to join together with East Papua New Guinea with elected representatives meeting in Port Morsby is the only common sense solution for the U.N. to follow to grant West Papua nations status with fellow Papuans in East Papua New Guinea.
