West Papua – an opportunity for David Cameron to create his foreign policy legacy & bring peace and justice to the region at last

This week David Cameron became the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He is the most high profile world leader who has raised concerns about the situation in West Papua, describing the ongoing Indonesian occupation as ‘terrible’. The remarks were made in a recent interview.

For over 45 years the people of West Papua have suffered under a murderous Indonesian occupation. On behalf of all West Papuans, we call on the British Government to intervene and help bring about the means by which we can exercise our right to self-determination. West Papua can be David Cameron’s foreign policy legacy. Our struggle for freedom will never stop.

The UK and every othe member of the United Nations should ask the ICJ (International Court of Justice) whether the 1962 New York Agreement was in violation of the UN Charter and/or UN General Assembly resolution 1514.

For 48 years the UN, Freeport and Indonesia have profited from this violation of international agreements. David Cameron can help world peace by asking the question which has been ignored for 48 years.

The electorates of every democratic nation need to be informed about West Papua, there needs to be more of a mainstream publicity campaign. The West’s excuse for ignoring this issue needs to be removed. Only then will their governments and politicians be unable to ignore the violation of freedom and human rights that has been going on for over 40 years.
Its time to bring West Papua to the living rooms of every freedom loving nation.
