Indonesia arrests dozens of peaceful protestors after demonstration held calling on Barack Obama to intervene in ongoing conflict

Indonesian police have arrested dozens of peaceful protestors in Jayapura after a peaceful demonstration was held to link in with the visit of Barack Obama to Indonesia (a visit that has now been postponed till later this year).

Despite having a permit for the demonstration, police officers stepped in and broke up the gathering, dragging protestors into waiting trucks.
Meanwhile, reports from the central highland region suggest that military sweeping operations have recommenced around the Mulia region with villages being stormed by troops and villagers now hiding in the jungle.

We appeal to the international community, both governments and civilians to take action to help the people of West Papua be free from Indonesian colonial rule.
