Indonesian authorities kidnap 200 Papuan children from their families and dump them in West Java

Report from Okezone, 17 November 2009. Translated by TAPOL

Around 200 Papuan children of school age are reported to be stranded in several places in the district of Tangerang West Java. They were stranded after being left in several places here after having been taken from Papua.
Marsila, a coordinator of the health unit of the Marsila Working Group, said that she had come across a Papuan child named Fauzan, age 12, from Wamena. She said that she met Fauzan after receiving information from the police in Ciputat.

She said that the child appeared to be in good health and said that he had not been psychologically abused. Fauzan told her that he had been taken from Papua along with 200 other children, travelling by Hercules (Indonesian militarty) aircraft.

He told her that he didn’t know where he and the other children had been landed, and said that they had simply been left there. He told Marsila that they managed to survive by stealing.

The children are now being looked after at a Refuge Centre in Pondok Aren, she said.
