Indonesian President SBY stood alongside Gordon Brown today in Downing Street, aware that the ongoing atrocities being carried out by Indonesia in West Papua have become big talking points in the UK as public awareness in the issue rises.
He will sit down at the G20 tomorrow aware that he is covered in Papuan blood. For the only reason that Indonesia has a place at G20 is because of their financial position, sourced from the resources they have stolen from West Papua to fund the Indonesian economy, whilst the Papuans have got poorer and poorer.
Just like in East Timor where Indonesia committed gross human rights violations and genocide, Indonesia are now doing the same in West Papua. But the world is watching closely, and those Indonesians committing violations will eventually be held to account before an international human rights court of law.
Indonesia’s reputation on the international scene is at its lowest level for years. The reality that Indonesia puts people in prison in West Papua for doing nothing more than raising a flag goes to highlight how far behind it is in becoming a democracy.
